When designing our toys we were going for sort of an "Alien VS Predator" kind of theme. Instead of having predators and aliens though, we decided to make "Vegetables VS Fruits". We wanted to have the fruits be medieval super soldiers and the vegetables to just be these savage, scary beasts. Here are some of the designs. "NUTRI-WARS!" is a possible name for our toy line...we don't know...anybody got any suggestions?!?!
I really like your ideas. I can totally see it as a designer toy.
ReplyDeleteQuestion: Is one side supposed to be evil and the other good? The vegetables seem like they are the evil ones? Also, you might want to change one of the fruits. They look too similar (apple and pear). Maybe a different shaped fruit like a banana or grapes. IDK.
Hope this helps!
This is a very fun concept! I really like all of the character designs - if handled correctly, these are going to turn out really well when you get to the model building phase. And the video advertisement potential here is immense!
ReplyDeleteI like the fact that some of your characters look like they've been through some rough battles in the past (damaged shield, mangled armor, etc.). To take that even further, would it be possible to maybe have some of the fruits' weaponry embedded in the vegetable monsters? For example, a broken off axe head in the back of the broccoli's leg or the tip of a sword in one of the monster's tentacles...something along those lines. Just throwing that out there, although the designs are terrific "as is" already!
Also, since there are a lot of extra pieces involved (weapons, tentacles, spikes, and so on), it's a good thing right now to keep an eye on any balance issues that may pop up when you folks are building in 3D. Thickness is going to be important for pieces that extend outwards, as will be how and where your weapons are placed. And to top it off, consider whether they will pass the eyeball test of "will it stand?".
Bottom line, I really think you're on to something here! Keep up the good work! :)
I really like your ideas. I think that I could see this as a toy, but I'm not quite sure what that last picture is, It's my favorite one, but I still don't know what it is. I do like however, how the first three sketches are very simple, it's really clear what they are supposed to be.
ReplyDeleteI think this idea is really good though, it's really unique.
Your sketches look very nice with the colors. However, they seem a little too complicated to print. Maybe you could simplify it a little.
ReplyDeleteIf you were going to use some fruits try using unique ones like a dragon fruit and having in the shape of a dragon. Things like that since an apple or pear is like ordinary fruits.
ReplyDeleteCool vegetable sketches, its something different all your vegetables look like they can fight. I really like how they're big and buff!! Keep it up.
ReplyDeleteThese sketches are awesome. I love the idea of the toys being against vegetables. It's childish- in a good way. I think this is a nice idea.
ReplyDeleteI think that your deigns are really creepy yet I like them because you just want to look at them. I like the whole idea because I admire the fact of Fruits and Vegetables fighting. I would love to see your posters because I think this would be a fun yet awesome! I love this!
ReplyDeleteYour sketches are very visual and helps me envision your concept a lot better than without it.
ReplyDeleteHopefully you don't have a hard time creating it in Maya
ReplyDeleteGreat start. Awesome artwork and ideas. I think the name of "Nutri-wars" is awesome and have so much possibilities!!! However, when I first hear the word Nutri-wars, I dont think of Veggies fighting Fruits since they are both healthy foods. I think of them both fighting JUNKFOOD.
ReplyDeleteWhat about having them fight a "McDonalds" shape container, or a "Starbucks Frappachino cup"? Could this turn in to a PSA 3D-animation? I could see this turn into a great "stay healthy" campaign. Just some "food for thought" :)
good job on the sketches, it shows that you guys really put a lot of thought and effort into each design. makekau also made a good point about this being turned into a PSA. save your maya models just in case you want to use it later on for a health PSA. keep it up!

I like your guys idea, it's a really fun looking concept. I think your broccoli character is too top heavy, so you might need to make a bigger base for him. The apple is going to have to be designed like the grenade toy Oconnor has, you know since one arm is bigger than the other, so it balances out.
ReplyDeleteI really like everything about this idea but, keep in mind its probably going to be hard to do in Maya because of all the little details. However if you guys can manage to pull it of in Maya it will probably be the best designer toy so far.
ReplyDeleteI really like your sketches and I feel that this concept is a good idea. I'm still not to sure on the name but Ibelieve with a very cool design who cares about the name.
